Arkas’ Lost arm

  • Object: Plaster sculpture

Title: Arkas (cast after Arkas of the East pediment of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia)

    Date: 1920s

    Collection: Allard Pierson Museum, Amsterdam

  • The Arkas plaster cast belongs to the museum’s large collection of plaster cast statues. Between 2018 and 2020, the plaster cast collection was relocated and stored away for the gallery's reopening in 2020. Unfortunately, the right forearm of Arkas was lost during this period, which resulted in the status quo.

  • The project's primary aim is to virtually reconstruct the lost right forearm of the plaster cast of Arkas. In return, the reconstructed arm can hopefully compensate for the lost information and help the plaster cast to better conform to its original shape and form. The project also aims to perform a comlete documentation of the object.
