ICOM-CC 2023, Valencia
Blessed by the Spanish sun, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the triennial ICOM-CC conference in Valencia. The theme of this year is “Working towards a Sustainable Past,” where the notion fo sustainability in conservation has been redefined for me. This 5-day event was a transformative experience, to say the least. It offered a platform for knowledge exchange and valuable connections. The interdisciplinary programme exposed me to diverse conservation topics, from disaster prevention to sustainability and decolonizing collections. Engaging with professionals and fellow students during breaks and networking sessions created lasting connections. This global academic network has left a profound impact on my personal and professional developments.
The conference not only broadened my understanding of innovative conservation techniques but also inspired research ideas for the upcoming academic year. Equipped with knowledge of innovative materials, I found myself swimming in blooming ideas of new research ideas. They will undoubtedly serve as a guiding compass in the upcoming academic year.
Moreover, this experience has instilled in me a newfound confidence, motivating me to actively participate in future conferences and share my own work with colleagues. It has expanded my professional horizons and sown the seeds of collaborative growth that will undoubtedly shape my trajectory in the realm of art conservation.
